Child Nutrition: Let them Drink Shakes

Child Nutrition: Let them Drink Shakes!

Diets loaded with convenience and fast foods are depriving our children of the very nutrients their growing bodies crave.

According to the Federal Intragency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, 8 of 10 U.S. children do not have a healthy diet. Poor diets can impair a child’s growth and cognitive development, as well as put them at an even higher risk for obesity.

Many American kids get their biggest nutritional boost from sugary fortified breakfast cereals or a daily chewable vitamin. Yet even with these added vitamins and minerals, they’re still missing key nutrients like healthy protein, pro-biotics, Omega 3s, antioxidants and more.

A nutrient-packed, great tasting smoothie or shake is the perfect way to give your kids the nutritional building blocks their bodies need to grow strong. A smoothie for breakfast gets them ready to meet the day, while an after school smoothie will give them the energy they need to power through sports, homework and everything else in their active lives. Plus, a healthy shake will help fill them up, replacing empty-calorie snacks that serve only to pack-on pounds.

Fresh or frozen fruits, low fat soy milk or fruit juice provide a great foundation for a tasty smoothie. From there, let your imagination soar!

What are your kids’ favorite shake or smoothie combination?
